Editor

Notidian’s editor combines rich text editing with a powerful WebGPU-powered drawing canvas.

Overview

The editor is designed for local-first note-taking with:

  • Rich text editing - Native contenteditable for optimal text handling
  • Drawing canvas - WebGPU-powered infinite canvas
  • Auto-save - Changes save automatically as you work

Text Editing

Click on the note title or content area to start typing. The editor uses native browser text editing for the best experience.

Title

The title appears at the top of the note. Click to edit.

Content

The main content area supports standard text editing.

Drawing

The canvas supports pressure-sensitive drawing with various brush types.

Brushes

  • Pen - Smooth vector strokes
  • Pencil - Textured strokes with pressure opacity

Tools

  • Select - Select and transform strokes
  • Pan - Navigate the canvas
  • Zoom - Zoom in/out

Images and Media

Paste or drop images onto the canvas to add them to your note. Notidian shows pasted images immediately, then optimizes them in the background.

  • Modern formats - Pasted images are saved as AVIF by default, with WebP fallback
  • Smaller workspaces - Image assets are compressed to reduce vault size
  • Clean notes - Images are stored as asset files, never embedded as large base64 strings

Performance

The editor uses WebGPU for hardware-accelerated rendering, enabling smooth drawing even with thousands of strokes on the canvas.
